Spot Colors 1/0 - 1/1 - 2/0 - 2/2 1/1 Means both sides of the printed piece receive one ink color each. The single color is commonly black but it could be any PMS spot color. Likewise, 1/0 means one side of the printed piece has a single ink color applied to it but the other side is completely blank. Less common are 2/2 and 2/1. The 2 could be two PMS Spot ink colors or one PMS Spot ink color and black. Likewise, the 1 could be black, one of the Spot colors used on the front or a different Spot color. Using the 2/2 or 2/1 designations will require that all the corresponding colors be clearly listed. Additionally your art files need to be created using spot colors not processed colors like CMYK.

CMYK Processed Colors 4/0 - 1/1 - 2/0 - 2/2 4/0 means one side of the printed piece has the four CMYK ink colors applied to it but the other side is completely blank. 4/1 means one side of the printed piece has the four CMYK ink colors applied and the other side only receives one ink color. In most cases this single ink color is black. 4/4 means there are four ink colors applied to the front of the piece and four ink colors applied to the back. These four colors are not just random colors – they are Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and BlacK, also known as CMYK. CMYK printing is also called four color process or four color printing and is used to generate what we know as full color printing.

Spot Colors (PMS)

CMYK (4 Color or Full Color)

60 Offset Uncoated Text A little bit thicker than copy paper. The 60# is a little similar to 28#. Uses: this stock is commonly used for inexpensive envelopes, also called White Wove.

100# Coated Text - Caliper: .0054 (100lb) 100# Gloss Text Similar to the 80# gloss text, but 25% thicker and heavier, for a more substantial feeling piece. Uses: brochures, information sheets, self-mailers, posters, and door hangers. 100# Dull/matte Text Thicker and heavier than 80# dull/matte text for a more substantial feeling piece. Provides a non-glossy, opaque base for detailed, crisp printing. Uses: brochures, information sheets, self-mailers, posters, and door hangers.

80# Coated Cover - Caliper: .0082 (80lb. / 7pt) 80# Gloss Cover Slightly thinner a postcard or baseball card. This stock is coated with a glossy finish, making photographs and other images look beautiful. Uses: durable, heavy-weight brochures, catalog covers, and packaging. 80# Dull/matte Cover Our dull/matte cover is slightly thiner than a postcard or baseball card with a smooth, non-shiny coating. It is well suited for detailed, crisp printing without sacrificing the ability to easily write on it. Uses: typically used with our 80# dull/matte text option for catalog or booklet pages.

100# Coated Cover - Caliper: .0103 (100lb. / 9pt) 100# Glossy Cover As thick as your typical postcard or baseball card. This stock is coated with a glossy finish, making photographs and other images look beautiful. Uses: durable, heavy-weight brochures, catalog covers, and packaging. 100# Matte/Dull Cover Is the thickness of a standard business card or postcard. This bright white, smooth #1 grade cover stock You can easily write on this stock. This heavier option is a great companion to our 70# uncoated text for texture consistency across your marketing materials. Uses: great option for appointment or reminder cards and business cards.

120# Coated Cover - Caliper: .0115 (120lb. / <12pt) 120# Gloss Cover It is heavy almost 12ptstock with a glossy, coated finish. It makes photographs and other images look beautiful. Not recommended for cards that you would like to write on. Uses: business cards, brochures, hang tags, and presentation folders. 120# Dull/matte Cover Dull/matte cover is a substantial paper with a smooth, non-shiny coating. It is heavy almost 12pt stock well suited for detailed, crisp printing without sacrificing the ability to easily write on the paper. You can also add UV coating on the front of a dull/matte card to add pop to the side that doesn't need to be written on. Uses: excellent choice for business cards, postcards, and greeting cards.

Specialty Papers We have access to pretty much any paper you might need to complete your project. We have the swatch books for nearly every paper manufacture or if you have a project in mind but are not sure of what paper to put it on then we'd be happy to work as a consultant showing you swatches and making recommendations.

Specialty Papers

Aqueous

Water based coating are applied in-line on a dedicated press. Provides good protection from fingerprints and other blemishes. Aqueous coatings are less likely to yellow and are more environmentally friendly than varnishes. They dry fast translates into faster turnaround times on press.

Gloss Aqueous

Applied as an overall coating, gloss aqueous offers better protection than gloss varnish. It is sometimes applied to a spot area however this requires creating an expensive die. The surface dries instantly, making it an excellent choice for short run work-and-turn projects.

Matte Aqueous

Matte aqueous: A scuff resistant matte coating which, as with gloss aqueous, is generally applied overall. And like a matte varnish it will soften and flatten images slightly.

Satin Aqueous

Satin aqueous: A popular compromise between gloss and matte, offers a pleasing sheen and good sheet protection.

SoftTouch Aqueous

A proprietary coating that is applied with a special metering roller to create a suede-like texture and extreme matte appearance. A little more expensive than Gloss or Matte.

UV Coatings

UV coatings are applied in-line by printers or offline by finishers or converters. They are applied as a liquid, using a roller, screen or blanket, and then exposed to ultraviolet light to polymerize and harden the coating. Like aqueous coatings, UV coatings can cause certain spot colors to shift in hue. Some UV coatings may have a strong odor.

Gloss UV

Creates the highest printable overall gloss coating. Depending on the printer's equipment it can be applied to spot areas.

Matte UV

Depending on the printer's equipment it can be applied overall or just to spot areas. It is prone to fingerprinting.

Varnishes

Varnishes are applied on press like any other ink and can be tinted to create a special effect. Although gloss and matte varnishes are typically used as spot or overall coatings, they can also be incorporated in the process or spot color inks in order to provide a unique look to the presswork.

Gloss Varnish

This coating can be applied overall or in spot areas with high precision. A gloss varnish increases the saturation and depth of colors while improving image contrast. It provides good protection against rub-off but some fingerprinting will be apparent on dark or light colors.

Matte Varnish

Protects the sheet with a non-reflective coating enhancing the readability of text-heavy pages. Using a matte varnish over images tends to flatten and soften them and provides a lush quality to the paper surface.

Satin Varnish

This coating is created by mixing gloss and matte varnishes together and offers an intermediate level of shine, with good scuff resistance.
